Winter on the Farm
Winter on the farm opens a whole new adventure

There is something pretty wonderful about winter on the farm. The gardens have slowed down, the busy days of summer are behind us, and life at Sugar Water Manor settles into a quieter rhythm. The mornings are peaceful, the air is crisp, and the wide-open spaces of Maryland's Eastern Shore seem even more beautiful this time of year.

It's the kind of place where you can pour another cup of coffee, forget about your to-do list, and enjoy not having anywhere you need to be. And we think that's exactly what a winter getaway should feel like.

This year, we're making it even easier to escape with our Winter Farm & Table Getaway, combining a relaxing farm stay with a delicious dining experience at our restaurant, Sugar Water, in historic Princess Anne.

Winter Is One of Our Favorite Times on the Farm

Most people think about visiting a farm during spring or summer, when everything is growing and the days are long. But winter has its own special charm.

The trees open up and you can see in to the woods, our Bald Eagle nest is in plain site and kayaking the river is a whole new experience.

Our goats, donkeys, chickens, ducks, and other farm animals are still here, and there's always something happening around the farm. You can enjoy the peaceful countryside, watch the animals, take in the fresh air, check what is growing in the gardens and cold frames and experience a slower side of farm life.

It's a chance to reconnect with nature without feeling like you need to fill every minute with activities. Bring a book or pick up a Blind Date Book at our shop. Sleep in. Enjoy a quiet morning.

Sometimes doing less is exactly what we need.

A Winter Getaway Just a Few Hours From Home

One of the best things about Sugar Water Manor is that you don't have to travel far to feel like you've gotten away. Located in Westover, Maryland, our farm stay is a wonderful destination for couples and travelers looking for a weekend getaway from Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Baltimore, Philadelphia, NYC and surrounding areas.

Instead of crowded resorts, busy schedules, and long airport lines, you'll find country roads, peaceful landscapes, and a completely different pace of life.

Whether you're planning a romantic weekend, needing some family time without interuptions, celebrating a special occasion, or simply looking for a little time away, winter on Maryland's Eastern Shore is worth discovering.

From the Farm to the Table

Of course, one of our favorite parts of visiting the Eastern Shore is the food.

That's why we've created a winter package that brings together two places we love: Sugar Water Manor and our restaurant, Sugar Water, located in the historic Washington Hotel in downtown Princess Anne.

At Sugar Water, our farm-and-water-to-table approach celebrates fresh, seasonal ingredients and the wonderful food traditions of Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Spend your day enjoying the farm or exploring Somerset County, then head into Princess Anne for a relaxing meal.

It's a wonderful way to experience both the peaceful countryside and the flavors of our region.

Explore Somerset County, Maryland, This Winter

While you could happily spend your entire visit relaxing at the farm, there's plenty to discover nearby. Explore historic Princess Anne, enjoy a scenic drive through the countryside, or visit the beautiful marshes and waterways that make Somerset County so special.

Winter is a particularly peaceful time to appreciate the natural beauty of the Eastern Shore, with quiet roads, open landscapes, antique stores and wonderful opportunities for birdwatching and photography.

And after a day of exploring, there's nothing better than returning to the farm for a quiet evening by the fire pit.
